Greenhouse Buying Guide
Whether you want to grow beautiful plants or fruit and vegetables a greenhouse can provide you with hours of fun. Mercia manufactures and stocks a range of styles and sizes to choose from, no matter how small your garden is.
Before you buy your greenhouse, it is worth considering the following points:
- Where do you want to place your greenhouse? What is the ground like, how much space is available and how much sun will it catch on a wood day?
- What would you like to grow? Are you just seeding or do you want to grow tall plants?
- What is your budget?
- How close to your water and electricity supplies will the greenhouse be? This could determine which greenhouse you buy or re-evaluate your budget.
If you choose the right shape of greenhouse you’ll be able to make the most of your space as well as providing your plants with the perfect environment in which they will prosper.
Types of Greenhouses
These are ideal for small spaces, such as patios and balconies. Place one against a sunny wall and you’ll create a fantastic space-saving option that provides you with enough height and space to grow tall your crops.
Traditions/Apex Roof Greenhouses
If you prefer plenty of head room in the centre of your greenhouse so you can work in your greenhouse, then this is the best option. Our Apex Range comes with slanted roof to drain rainwater.
Top Tip – Why not install a water butt outside your greenhouse to provide a constant supply of water for your plants?
How many doors?
Most greenhouses come with either a single or double door at the entrance. Single door options work well if you’ve got a limited amount of room, or you want to create the largest possible amount of growing space inside your greenhouse. Double doors are a more accessible option, and are well worth thinking about if your want to take a wheelbarrow inside.
Also opening the doors of your greenhouse is one of the best ways to ventilate it on a hot day to stop your plants from overheating and dehydrating. So double doors will give you more ways to control the temperature inside.
